Mikron Theatre
At the end of June 2013 the Mikron Theatre Company made another welcome return
to Blisworth. The Company tours England by narrow boat, mostly presenting plays at
canal-side locations. The plays have a certain education content, as well as being
entertaining. On this occasion about 100 of us assembled in the garden of the Old
Rectory to learn all about bees and honey. It was a pleasant Sunday afternoon and
we all enjoyed the First Act. Then came the Interval; the Heavens opened and the
rain came down by the bucketful. After sheltering under umbrellas for the Interval,
there was a discussion between cast and audience and we all decided to continue in
the rain. Sadly one of the actors slipped on the wet grass and sprained her ankle
badly and eventually the show was abandoned. So we all slithered down the bank
onto the tow-path and headed hastily for home and the dry (fortunately nobody slid
on across the tow-path and into the canal!). Two days later Mikron were performing
their other play at Stoke Bruerne. This was about the history of the Post Office.
Stoke Bruerne had erected a marque outside the Museum for the performance, not a
drop of rain fell... is there no justice? However, we are happy to report that the
injured actor was back on her feet and performing (although still hobbling slightly).
Unfortunately Mikron do not have any more venues in this area on the current tour,
but if you visiting “up north” there is still a chance to see them,
